This is the first of my visits to All Saints Poplar as the timekeeper.
Arriving to the church, I noticed the clock was 3 minutes fast. Being used to the + – 1 second difference at Limehouse, I was quite determined to get it right!
I first said hello to Gareth, the Team Leader at All Saints, who led me up to the clock room and left me up there to do what I needed.
I wasn’t going to start any work there today (and I didn’t have any tools) and it was purely for observation purposes

I first had a look at the weight shaft for the chime and strike weights. You can tell these haven’t been wound in ages.

It’s going to take a bit of work to make sure these lines are even safe.
I also summed up the courage to take a trip up 5 ladders to the motion works

Very dusty up there, the pigeon situation isn’t actually too bad, but these defo need cleaning.
And finally, I set the time. I’ve got a bit of a theory about the setting dial but that will have to wait for another time…

Timekeeping:
Date: 04.04.26
Timekeeping (+ or -): +3 mins
Work done/adjustments: Adjusted pendulum and set clock to time. Inspected motion works and weights.
Next time?: Clean motion works, time-keep further, take a look at striking parts (striking trains can work without quarters in this clock and so can get that running first)
